It’s been a while! Life has been keeping me busy with a 2 full time jobs, my 9-5 and motherhood! Inspiration has also been low for recipes as I spend my days just recreating what I already know to save time #MumLife
One thing that has got me thinking recently is, where does the plastic we use go after we throw it out and what is the effect on our environment and bodies?
You don’t have to do a lot of research to instantly know that single use plastic is one of the worst things that has happened to our environment in the last 50 years. There has been a few steps globally to combat this but here in the gulf region, awareness is low. There are some awesome companies looking to tackle this and there is definitely some easy tips you can implement in your daily life that could help.
This is one of the best things that I have discovered this year! Not only does it save me time by delivering straight to my door, but they can deliver most produce with no plastic bags! The veggies come in a cardboard box that they take back to re-use all you have to do is just ask for no plastic bags in the comment section when completing an order.
2- Farmers Markets
Not only is this a fun way to spend the weekend getting yourself some brekky and coffee also most producers do not use plastic bags to package their goods. There are a few farmers markets in Dubai, the most popular being Ripe Market.
Alright, so you might be thinking Dubizzle, how is this environmentally friendly? Buying used goods cuts down on manufacturing demands and keeps more items out of the landfill! Because a large amount of goods are routinely thrown away, re-using gives a longer life to these items, saving the Earth in effect. Think children’s toys, TV’s, home furniture etc..
4- Green Truck
Green Truck is a private recycling transportation service, providing convenient, affordable and genuine recycling solutions to UAE residents and corporations. For only 100 dhs a month, they pick up the bin from your doorstep and segregate the material! Essentially they do all the hard work for you for only 100 dhs! It does not get easier than this.
Other tips, that are not country specific is always to have tote bag handy in your car for whenever you need to have a quick shop. Also carry a reusable water bottle to avoid plastic bottles!
Hope this has inspired you and let me know if there is anything you do that helps reduce waste?
